Thinking of you, lovely fifi
What a weird few days you've had! Hope you're coping. A friend's son woke up yesterday in Sydney with dust all around him and a bird taking shelter on his shoulder. He woke, looked at it, said hello (he's not a panicker) and it flew back out the window. Just thought you'd like that story.
It was 'the other day', wasn't it, not yesterday... I'm constantly losing days at the moment.
Wow. I saw some of those pictures from Sydney in the dust storm. It does look kind of apocalyptic. My friend Gary gave me his meteorological explanation of why this happened in Sydney ... Long story short, there is a severe drought in the interior of Australia (what's new?) that created a lot of loose soil/dust ... some high based thunderstorms that kicked up aforementioned dirt and dust ... an anomalous flow that was not zonal but more meridional ... i.e. north-south ... that brought that vast amount of dust on a trajectory right over New South Wales. It'll end and the world will return to its normal condition.
yes, it didn't just happen in Sydney; Canberra had a completely brown fog that day... but that's not as sexy as red, is it?
I went to bed and for some reason muttered the "red sky at night/ shepherds' delight/ red sky in morning/ shepherds' warning" ditty. So very spooky wasn't it. Your fish friends have had a bonus feed,so I'm told. All that iron and other minerals.
Oooh I so wish I could have been there to see it. But I am so glad I have been there because it makes seeing the photos feel very real. Spectacularly scary.
I've been thinking of you and your dad, glad to hear he is ok.When I first saw images of that dust storm I started thinking was it april first and was it some kind of prank with a red filter on the camera.
Yes, that dust storm made the everything look a bizarre new planet, didn't it?I'm glad your da is OK.
I've seen some amazing photos of that day Fifi, somthing you won't forget in a hurry! It really would have been bizarre to wake up to that.
Such good news re the Trumpeter. It was like the end of the world.Today was more like the twilight of the world... but it cleared quickly!
