Two Fish: In Which The Fish Has Company

After a lifetime of rising at dawn
for solitary communion
with the sea and the sky and the other sea creatures

having company takes a little getting used to.

I really don't mind so much that my child has taken to tagging along:

It halves the chances of being eaten by a predator.

(not, of course, that the above creature is predatory in the slightest.)

You are really making me miss the ocean lateley! Every time I check out your blog I am reminded that the ocean at least 3 days drive away, in any direction. I can feel how cool and fresh it would be to just dive in. So, so, nice!

NO, said creature is indeed not predatory. You, on the other hand, had the good sense to be swimming higher than its tail could reach.

But when you share something like that with someone you love doesn't it make it twice as much fun?

I used to have recurring dreams about giant sing-rays. black ones. i guess they were manta rays. they were really huge, and would slide and sail about me. i'd be terrified of them in real life but there was something strangely beautiful about them, flying in the water.

I love love love your underwater photos.

How lovely that she wants to come with you. I thought all teens shunned their parents' company on principle!

But I do understand that her presence makes the time different for you - no longer your solitary escape.

Hope things are going well for you fifi fish :)

Great photos as usual! You make me want a waterproof camera, but then I rarely swim in the sea so what am i thinking!!!??!! I wish that one of my chickies would come with me because I am really not motivated to go on my own....I really should.

Gotta respect the stingray!

I hear that they are not predatory but encounters with them a la Steve Irwin do not always go so well.

What kind of underwater camera do you have that takes such great pictures?? And how do you carry it with you when you are swimming, doing laps in the ocean?

It all looks so nice, so peaceful, so serene.

Thank you for your nice comments on my blog. I responded to them, but I just wanted to say congratulations on the grant! That's very good news! And you deserve it.

Also, concerning the sad-looking picture of me, you see, I was going for an Edward Hopper-esque feel as in his Automat painting, but it didn't work out.

I love those stingrays, they are really sweet and have such mild expressions on their faces.
They have such a tiny little stingy sting that you would be hard pressed to
get stung even if you did step on it.
This one "suctioned" itself to the sand when it saw me above it. Cute.

I did glimpse something further out, but pretended I didn't. Didn't fancy the shrieking had i mentioned it at the time.

Thank you for your lovely comments,
my camera is very tiny I just swim along with it tied on or tucked in.I'm glad I can share my seascape.

I shall never swim in the sea where there are alarming-looking creatures, but am very glad to share your dawn swims.

I don't really do anything willingly at dawn.

Thanks so much for your comment!

Yes, so you have a wee itty bitty camera, and it's water proof... but what the heck is it? Is it the same one you use on land? If so, I'd like to know what it is. It takes great pictures. If it isn't a gajilliondollars and not too complicated... I want one!!!

Woo Hoo! Thanks! (There can't be two FifiLastupendas in the world!)

But getting back to tin tacks, lovely photos. And nice rationalisation about the wisdom of taking the offspring along....
Made me laugh.

I know that totally selfish feeling... it is nice to feel you have something 'just for you'.
Your photos are just so exquisite!
Thankyou for sharing a little of your Fifi's world!

My ex stepped on a stingray who was hiding peacefully in the sand. My ex received a sting that 'weeped' for months.
Glad you and your daughter fared well and I am so loving your underwater photos!

Oh I love those rays. I remember once walking along in the shallows with the boys when one reared up from under the sand - it was huge - and we all ran off screaming. We felt very silly when we saw what it was. Can't think where that was.

My little one has suddenly turned into a fish. The older boys were teaching him butterfly today and he is so determined.

Hey fifi I just checked back to see if you had done a new post and skimmed through the photos again as I did I had to laugh it just dawned on me your daughter was the other half of the chance! Very unconventional!! Yes I'm not functioning at my best and am a little slow!
